Strong metal prices boost the AUD

For the 24 hours to 23:00 GMT, AUD strengthened 0.20% against the USD to close at 1.0028.

In the Asian session at 4:00GMT, the pair is trading at 1.0051, 0.23% higher from the New York session close.

LME Copper prices rose 2.3% or $227.5/MT to $10,147.8/ MT. Aluminium prices declined 0.2% or $5.8/ MT to $2,484.5/ MT.

Copper imports in China rose by 5.7% in January from the previous month as fabricators increased stockpiles ahead of a seasonal ramp up in production.

The pair is expected to find first short term resistance at 1.0083, with the next resistance levels at 1.0115 and 1.0187, subsequently. The first support for the pair is seen at 1.0011, followed by next supports at 0.9971 and 0.9899 respectively.

In Australia, the Westpac leading index is expected to play a key role to influence trading trends in the pair.

The currency pair is trading just above its 20 Hr and 50 Hr moving averages.
